Liverpool to commemorate Diogo Jota and Andre Silva in Preston friendly
Liverpool have announced that Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, will be commemorated with tributes ahead of their friendly at Preston North End on Sunday.
Jota and Silva died in a car crash last Thursday in the Spanish province of Zamora.
Liverpool confirmed their first pre-season friendly would go ahead, with their match at Deepdale the first since Jota’s passing.
There will be a rendition of Liverpool’s anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ before kick-off, while Preston will also lay a wreath in front of the away supporters.
The Lillywhites have also created a commemorative edition of their matchday programme, with digital tributes set to be displayed inside the stadium.
There will also be a minute’s silence prior to the match, with both sets of players wearing black armbands in remembrance.

Jota signed for Liverpool from Wolves in September 2020, going on to make 182 appearances over his five-year spell with the Reds.
He scored 65 goals and registered 26 assists in that time, winning the Premier League title in 2024-25. He also won the EFL Cup twice and the FA Cup in 2021-22.
Jota’s final match came last month as he helped Portugal to beat Spain to win the Nations League.
