Joao Pedro targets Brazil recall with red-hot Chelsea form

Joao Pedro hopes his form for Chelsea will see him receive a call-up to the Brazil squad next month.

The 24-year-old has made an impressive start to 2026-27 for the Blues, both scoring and assisting in their wins over Fulham and Brighton.

Joao Pedro is the fourth Brazilian to score in both of a team’s first two Premier League games of a season, after Elano (MancesterCity, 2008-09), Richarlison (Everton, 2018-19), and Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal, 2022-23).

He led Chelsea players in goals last season (20 – not including the Club World Cup) and direct goal contributions (26), while he scored the fourth-most goals in the Premier League in 2025-26 (15).

Despite his exploits for Chelsea, the striker missed out on a spot in Brazil’s World Cup squad last summer, making way for Neymar’s highly anticipated return.

The Selecao were knocked out in the last 16 by Norway, with many left disappointed by their lack of attacking prowess at the tournament.

Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti was at Stamford Bridge as Joao Pedro starred for Chelsea against Brighton, though the forward insisted it did not impact his performance.

"I try to do my job regardless of who is watching," Joao Pedro told ESPN.

"I always aim to maintain a high standard. As for the Brazilian national team, I want to carry on doing my job and, God willing, I’ll be there.

"I think I’ve been proving this [good form] over the years. I got off to a good start last season, and this season too.

"Now it’s a case of keep up the pace, carrying on working hard and, God willing, finishing as high up the table as possible."

Joao Pedro has made eight appearances for Brazil, but has never scored for the Selecao.

Brazil will face Australia in a friendly on September 25 during the next international break, while they will also take on India.
